It's time. I sold the first burning all class misc. It seemed daily I would get asked about this hat, how I acquired it and how it happened. I've been waiting to disclose the story the moment I sold it. It's quite crazy, so take a seat and get ready.
=Back Story (2012)=
This story all starts from a troll post on the League of Legends forums. This poster makes a troll post stating he'll 1v1 anyone and win easily, stating he's better than the pro players etc. I call his bluff and add him to 1v1 him. Shortly he adds me back and we begin fighting. During the game he asks about my name saying it sounds familiar. I told him you might know me from trading in TF2. He knew exactly who I was when I said that. He then presented himself as Suspicious Pyro, and old SOP buddy of mine (however we lost connection since he quit steam). We spent the rest of the match talking rather than fighting. What luck...
Fast forward a few months I convinced him to get back into trading and promised I'd teach him the new market trends (he's been out for awhile). He caught on quick and made a ****load of money. School was starting for him so he had to quit, I helped cash him out so it would help him afford school.
Somewhere along the lines he gets back in and cashed out again. I help him cash out once more.
Fast forward to Summer-Fall of 2013 Suspicious Pyro gets back into trading. I alerted him of an outpost trade of Unusual Neymar quick-selling a bunch of unusuals (flies veil included). He bought his unusuals. A couple weeks after that I heard Neymar unboxed a burning View and from that moment I had to get my hands on it. I had Suspicious Pyro buy it off Neymar. Shortly after he bought the Burning Viewfinder he told me he had to quit to start school again. Perfect. I haggled and eventually bought the hat for $1300 off Pyro. Didn't hear from him again. Since then I've kept the hat. Something told me to hang onto it, I cannot explain.
January 23rd 2014, I was playing Team Fortress 2 when Woifi adds me and explaining that I just won TF2. Valve had made the Virtual Viewfinder an all class misc. I was completely in awe, speechless. My 15 minutes of fame came and everyone was talking about the burning viewfinder, truly a wonderful experience.
I waited patiently for the *right* offer, and I think I got it today. Today I traded the Viewfinder for:
Clean GE KE (~65)
Clean Burning Tyrant (~20)
Clean Stormy Hazmat (~20) discontinued and rare
I do believe the KE is worth more considering recent events, but I'm pricing everything conservatively.
http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/17493108 historical trade
If it hadn't been for that completely unrelated troll forum post on the League of Legends boards, none of this would have happened.
Dont you need 2 recent sales? :O
The new owner isn't going to sell.
rules are rules.
Someone didn't read all the rules. There are exceptions- clearly stated in the guide to making a suggestion.
so you just pay whatever you feel like for a 1/1, claim you won't sell and get it priced at what you paid?
I can't be the only one that sees a little issue with that one.
do you truly, honestly believe a burning viewfinder will be unboxed again in a short while? Do you think Der will part with something he paid so much for and vowed to keep it? "Exceptions" don't apply to every day hats.
let me give you an example.
I have a 1/1 bolted birdcage with knifestorm. Its a solid 6 months till it can ever be unboxed again. I shuffle that off to my buddy for 15 buds. Go price it 15 buds.
A few weeks later, I kickback the 15 to him for another unpriced 1/1 weirdo halloween hat. Then that can be priced for 15.
Then I've created 15 buds from nothing.
The restriction was put in place to prevent new unusuals from getting a wildly inaccurate hyped up price. Being that its the only sale in months, and the fact that its not a new hat/effect it shouldn't be an issue.
"let me give you an example.
Because you can't do that with 2 different people...
I have hat A, which is a 1/1 unpriced Halloween.
My friend has hat B, which is also 1/1 unpriced Halloween.
My friend pays me 15 buds pure for Hat A.
I submit suggestion pricing Hat A as 15 buds. (he confirms not for sale or w/e)
a few weeks later, I just happen to have a hankering for Hat B. So I pay my friend 15 pure for Hat B.
He submits a suggestion pricing Hat B as 15 buds. (I confirm not for sale or w/e)
Now Hat A is 15 buds, and Hat B is 15 buds. And my friend has the 15 buds he started with.
And all that actually ends up changed is Hat A for Hat B.
But by exploiting the ****ty exception rule, I've somehow gained 15 buds in value and so has my friend.
Yes, i understand that, but that can happen even if the restriction required 20 sales.
Offers on the trade support the general price range. Offers on a ks bolted birdcage wouldn't be remotely close to 15.
But yes, we make exceptions for halloween effects. So if there has only been a single sale on a halloween effect and the owner shows no intention of selling at a month+, a suggestion can be made for those based on 1 sale.
He will. It's just gonna take the right offer.
I have sold him at hat that he was "never gonna sell" too :p
Hmm I forgot the actual proof, lemme get it real quick.
congrats on the trade, upvote
Thanks man. :)
Dat bp value spike <3
What is this, a shadow suggestion?
Is that really a misc? I mean, before the Christmas update, the slot was hat or misc?
It was a hat, then a recent update made it a misc that can be worn with most if not all hats.
So basically league of legends gave you 130 buds of profit. Not bad :P.
And this is an exception to the rule, as it's not a new effect, and one will likely not sell again anytime soon
But it still is a new hat... even if it's gotten to the point where it could be considered an older hat.
Im too poor to vote lol, but if i could i would easily give it an upvote seeing as how high tier items are very rarely sold
